Description

Pixels Dice are smart dice that can detect the way they roll and light up accordingly. No bigger than regular playing dice, they can communicate with your phone or favorite DnD platform to replace virtual dice as well. Pixels Dice are recharged wirelessly, with each charge lasting for around 1000 rolls.

History

The design of Pixels Dice started in 2017 with a very first prototype D6 that used single-color LEDs. Over time, the concept evolved to include RGB LEDs, rechargeable batteries and wireless charging. After a very successful reception at the Bay Area Maker Faire, work began on creating a D20 version, with the intent to demonstrate that we could build all D&D common die sizes. The D20 prototype was presented at the 2019 Gen Con to incredible reception and prompting us to continue working on the project.

2020 saw us focus entirely on manufacturability and production cost, with again several more iterations on the design. We also took the time to develop and publish a proper accompanying app to demo the capabilities of the dice, since we wouldn’t be able to show them off in person.

Systemic Games is a very small independent studio, based in Rockville, MD.

Its founder Jean Simonet is a former AAA game developer. In fact Jean has been making video games for over a 15 years. His most notable works include Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim.

Video games have been a constant presence in his life; some of his earliest memories are of playing Bruce Lee on the Atari 800XL with is brother. Jean has lived on three continents, so far. He was born in France, grew up in Gabon, and has lived in the States for the last 20 years. His absolute favorite game is Dune, although he suspects that it's related to the fact that it was the very first game he played after getting a Sound Blaster.
